13 x original postcards showing the Franco-British Exhibition of 1908, the first international exhibition co-organised and sponsored by two countries – associated with the ‘Entente Cordiale’ of 1904. The chief architect of the many elaborate, mainly Oriental-style buildings, courts and gardens was John Belcher. So much of the architecture was white in colour that it gave the name ‘White City’ to the area near Shepherd’s Bush in London. 11 of these postcards are ‘Official’, colour-tinted, printed by Valentine & Sons of Dundee; the two b&w bird’s-eye views are by Willard & Lane Ltd, ‘art publishers’. Views are of the Colonial Bandstand, the British Applied Arts Palace, the Court of Honour, and the ‘Irish Village’ (which includes a round tower). All as new, unused, unmarked.
